Wine Cap Mushroom has been planted 1 time by Growstuff members.

Wine Cap Mushrooms have a flat to curved reddish-brown cap with gills underneath. The gills darken from light gray to a deep purple-brown as the mushroom matures. The cap can be as wide as 30cm in diameter. The stem is white, with a wrinkled "king crown" ring around it. Flesh is white and firm, with notes of potatoes and red wine. Wine Caps are native to Europe and North America, where they grow on wood chips and bark mulch. They are easy to grow and can be cultivated outdoors or inside by inoculating layers of wood chips, straw, and cardboard. Mushrooms will appear within 2-12 months. Wine Caps are a good companion plant, especially for corn, because they improve soil quality and eat the nematode Panagrellus redivivus.
